9  Process and Deadlines

The B1310 module is designed to offer maximum flexibility in terms of where placement is completed, and the timescale/structure of the placement.

However, there are a number of key milestones that must be completed by each student across the year:

9.1 Before placement

  1. Familiarise yourself with the requirements of the module;

  2. Think about an appropriate placement provider where you might like to gain experience. Refer to the opportunities publicised on myplace;

  3. Make an informal approach to the provider (see below); find out if they are happy to accommodate you for a placement;

  4. If you get a positive response, complete the online placement proposal form. A list of the questions that form the proposal can be found later in this handbook.

The provider will be formally asked by the Module Leader if they wish to accept you for placement. You will be notified of the outcome by email. If it is positive, you can begin placement at a time and date agreed between you and the agency. If it is negative, return to step (2).

Note that you must have received approval to begin your placement by the end of Semester 1, Week 9 (Friday 29th November 2024).

Do not begin placement until you have had the placement confirmed by email from the Module Leader.

9.2 During the early stages of placement

  1. During your first few hours of placement, email the module leader to confirm that your placement has started;

  2. During your first week of placement, make sure you receive a health and safety briefing from the placement provider. If you do not receive this briefing, remind your placement supervisor;

  3. Complete the online health and safety checklist via Myplace. The online form can be accessed directly here;

  4. Start keeping your placement logbook. This should be an electronic document (an Excel spreadsheet works best).

9.3 At the mid-point of placement

  1. Arrange to complete the mid-placement review with your placement supervisor;

  2. After completing the review, fill out and submit the mid-placement review form online. The online form can be accessed via Myplace, or directly here;

  3. Ensure your placement logbook is being kept up to date.

9.4 At the end of placement

  1. Make sure your placement logbook is complete, and that you have completed around 50 hours of activity;

  2. Get your logbook electronically signed by your placement supervisor (either by inserting an electronic signature or by printing the logbook, getting it signed, and scanning it);

  3. Begin to prepare your final presentation. The presentation is the main assessment item for this module;

  4. Submit your PowerPoint presentation to myplace by 5.00pm on Friday 25th April 2025.

  5. Submit your logbook (electronic copy) and electronic copy of your PowerPoint presentation to myplace by 5.00pm on Monday 28th April 2025.
